Believed to be  a cross between the European red raspberry ‘Red Antwerp’ 
and the American blackberry ‘Aughinburgh’. 

Accidentally created in the 1880s  in Santa Cruz, California, 
by ane American lawyer and horticulturist James Harvey Logan . 

It bears fruits earlier than its blackberry parent. 

It produces fruit for approximately 2 months, 
generally between July and September
