Egg and Chips Plant

Eggplants and Potatoes from the same Plant

The Egg & Chips plant and Ketchup and fries plant

A few year back British Seed company Thompson and Morgan revamped an 17th century gardening fad and recreated the "ketchup and Fries Plant" or Tom-Tato, a Tomato-Potato Plant that grows cherry tomatoes on top and potato tubers on its roots. TomTatoes are actually two plants grafted together. Potatoes and Tomatoes are close relatives botanically speaking and they graft well together.

Most recently they have done the same thing with Eggplant and spuds and dubbed their "frankenplant" as the "egg n chips" plant. Using the same methodolgy used for the ketchup n fries plant.

The Egg & Chips plant , like its cousin the tomtato. is NOT A GMO, it is very simply - a grafted plant.

Thompson and Morgan spokesperson Kris Collins, stated that since both vegetables are in the same family, this strange grafting technique actually works when done properly.

The companies R&D people used what they claim is a unique grafting process and experimented with over 20 varieties of eggplant before deciding on the final process and cultivars. The eggplant that was finally chosen is a hybrid that has had the bitterness bred out of it.

The ‘Egg and Chips’ is not available outside of the UK this season [2016], hopefully next.
