Preserving Grapes

Home Made Grape Jelly

Conserves are jams made from a mixture of fruits.They also at times contain nuts and raisins.

Grape Orange-Walnut Conserve

4 lbs. Stemmed Concord grapes 8 cups sugar

3 medium oranges

2 lemons

2 cups walnuts

Wash the grapes under cold water

Pinch the grapes to separate skins from pulp and then cook the pulp until soft.

Sieve to remove seeds. A colander or strainer will also suffice.

Add skins, then stir in sugar, Juice ,Oranges - Fruit only, and lemons.

Thinly slice the Orange peels, cover with cold water, heat to a boilDrain and add to grape mixture with fruit juices.

Cook until thick, about 40 minutes. Add walnuts. Pour in hot sterilized jars. Seal at once.

Grape and Raisin-Nut Conserve

6 lb. stemmed grapes

6 lb. sugar

1 lb. raisins

3 oranges

1 cup chopped nuts {Mixed Walnuts, Almonds, Macadamia are my favorites}

Remove hulls and cook pulp till tender. Rub through a sieve to remove the seeds.

Combine pulp and hulls. Add sugar, raisins, juice and grated Orange rinds.

Cook until thick. Add nuts and remove from heat. Pour into hot glasses and seal.
